CBdFC Carting
Roll on Columbia Bouviers
One of the Club’s annual activities is Bouvier carting events.
Carting events are their own type of fun – held outdoors, lots of walking around and visiting with folks and their dogs, and it is a heritage activity that goes back to pulling milk carts in Flander’s Field.
Participating in carting requires a little help getting started – fitting a harness, getting a cart and introducing a dog to the set up. There is a Facebook website for Pacific Northwest Carting Canines that has information on getting started and practice sessions. Or contact one of the Board members for more information.
The Club holds a late summer trial late near Spokane, Washington. It is a lovely site with enthusiastic teams. It is a two day trial with an ABdFC and NAWBA trial each day. Our early summer trial will be returining in 2026.
Club members David Herndon and Cathy Longworth have been holding these trials for several years, and they are fun events.
Some fun facts: Both the NAWBA and ABdFC events consist of an individual maneuvering course, followed by a group freight haul. The exercises in the maneuvering courses vary a little, and are fun and challenging in both events. The ABdFC Freight haul weight is 1/2 the dog's weight for DD, 1/4 the dog's weight for novice. NAWBA's is "between 20 and 75 pounds". ABdFC is pass/fail, NAWBA is scored, with placements. If you are a Bouvier, ABdFC NDD or DD title can be added to your AKC pedigree.
The ABdFC and NAWBA regulations are available at the links.
To see what a trial is like, see pictures from the June 3, 2023 ABdFC test and NAWBA carting trial at Carting June 2023.
In 2025, the September trial will be August 23 and 24 with an ABdFC Carting Tests and NAWBA Carting Trials at Nine Mile Falls, WA (near Spokane). Here is the premium.
